Researchers estimate the reptile may have reached <strong>between 11 and 15 meters in length<\/strong>, placing it in the same league \u2014 or possibly beyond \u2014 <strong>the legendary Titanoboa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"4237\" data-end=\"4523\">The fossils were unearthed in the Panandhro lignite mine and date back around 47 million years to <strong>the Middle Eocene period.<\/strong> Scientists analyzed <strong>27 fossilized vertebrae<\/strong>, some still articulated, allowing them to estimate the animal\u2019s enormous size.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"4525\" data-end=\"4921\">The species was named <strong><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Vasuki indicus<\/span><\/span><\/strong> after <strong>the mythological serpent linked to the Hindu god Shiva<\/strong>. According to research published in <strong><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/srep\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"4684\" data-end=\"4757\">Scientific Reports<\/a><\/strong>, the snake belonged to <strong>the extinct<\/strong> <strong>Madtsoiidae family<\/strong> and likely hunted through ambush attacks, much like modern anacondas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"4923\" data-end=\"5441\">For years, the title of largest known snake belonged to <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Titanoboa cerrejonensis<\/span><\/span>, the enormous species found in Colombia. However, the new estimates surrounding <strong><em data-start=\"5099\" data-end=\"5115\">Vasuki indicus<\/em><\/strong> have reopened scientific discussions about which reptile truly deserves the crown.
