Last week we celebrated February 11th , the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and at SATDI we wanted to learn about the work of some of the service’s technicians and discover the variety of scientific profiles working in the Teaching and Research Support Service. We learned about the work of Clara Blanes, who works in the Public Health Department and is specifically focused on the CAIR project, a community-based project in the Carrús neighborhood of Elche that aims to improve the lives and health of people in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Clara tells us about it:
Eva del Rio, PhD in Neuroscience, is a technician at IDIBE, the Institute for Research, Development, and Innovation in Health Biotechnology at UMH. There are many ways to do science, and hers is one of the least visible. She is in charge of the logistics and equipment control at the institute and is an indispensable part of the development and progress of the research carried out there. Eva explains her work to us:
And finally, our colleagues Sonia Andreu and María Gomariz, who work at the Bioengineering Institute of Miguel Hernández University, explained how preclinical research is conducted in their vision studies. They also showed us the Street Lab, where a very promising clinical study is underway. Don’t miss it!
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science serves to showcase the careers of many female scientists, and thus motivate the scientific careers of many girls and young women who need role models and inspiration that are sometimes not shown in science books or in the media.
