A Shimadzu NEXERA series Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (uHPLC) system coupled to an LCMS-8050 triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for tandem mass spectrometry (QqQ-MS/MS). uHPLC systems accelerate liquid chromatography procedures, increase productivity, and reduce mobile phase consumption, thereby lowering costs and losses. This offers significant advantages in the development of analytical processes in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. The coupling of this liquid chromatograph to a high-speed QqQ mass spectrometer (>15,000 amu/s) enables the development of highly robust and reproducible methods, reduces analysis times compared to conventional methods due to the high ion currents generated, and achieves high sensitivity in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode.

The sensitivity of this instrument allows it to achieve a detection limit on the order of picograms in MRM mode, making it particularly suitable for the quantitative analysis of all types of molecules: organic compounds, metabolites, tryptic peptides, additives, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc. Furthermore, this instrument also offers sub-unit mass resolution (R < 0.7 FWHM) for compound identification, in addition to the possibility of performing tandem mass spectrometry for structural analysis. Among the many applications of this instrument are:

  • Nanotechnology, for evaluating the charging and discharging of compounds in nanofibers and nanoparticles.

  • Cosmetics industry: identification and quantification of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), preservatives, phospholipid profile, etc.

  • Food safety: determination of residual pesticides in botanical extracts, quantification of antibiotic metabolites in food samples, water quality and toxicological analysis.

  • Metabolomics: highly sensitive quantification of drug metabolites and xenobiotics.

  • Proteomics: identification of peptides, especially suitable for gene expression quantification studies and quantitative proteomics (ICAT, iTRAQ, SILAC).
