This state-of-the-art instrument features a 300 W xenon lamp as a polychromatic light source, a dual excitation monochromator, and an emission monochromator, along with a four-position sample compartment controlled by a Peltier element. It is capable of measuring steady-state fluorescence, acquiring excitation and emission spectra, and determining quantum yields. Furthermore, it includes excitation and emission polarizers that enable fluorescence anisotropy measurements. It
also features a time-resolved fluorescence measurement module, comprised of picosecond detection electronics and pulsed light sources—specifically, two LEDs and three laser diodes—covering the ultraviolet to visible spectrum. This module also incorporates automated polarizers for acquiring time-resolved anisotropy measurements.

 

The applications of steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence are numerous, spanning both basic and applied science in fields as diverse as biology, chemistry, biotechnology, nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals, materials science, food science, and environmental science. These techniques enable the study and characterization of materials or biological systems at the molecular and cellular levels, allowing for the measurement of distances at the nanoscale, as well as dynamic processes occurring in the nanosecond range.
Furthermore, thanks to the development of increasingly advanced fluorescent probes and markers, it is possible to measure molecular interactions or characterize the structures of biological macromolecules such as DNA or proteins, or more complex and heterogeneous structures like biological membranes. In addition, fluorescence is highly useful as an analytical tool, particularly in the field of sensors and biosensors, due to its versatility and sensitivity.
