Last Monday, June 9, 2025, we celebrated the II SATDI Conference on Coexistence, Communication and Dissemination on the Orihuela Campus (Desamparados). In this second edition, we managed to gather around 60 colleagues from different areas spread across the four campuses that the university has throughout the province. The event was a great success both in terms of participation and organization, since the technicians from Orihuela served on this occasion as hosts to the rest of the PTGAS from Altea, Elche and San Juan.
The event began very early, at 08:30 in the morning, with a brief reception in the central square of the Oriolano campus that helped to break the ice and also for those in charge of guiding the day to establish the teams (A and B) for the subsequent workshops. Once the groups had been created, the delegation headed to the illustrious Barraca on campus where attendees could admire different elements of the venue such as its classic and iconic fireplace.
After this first contact with the campus, the classmates began to divide up and contemplate the different sections of it in an organized and effective way. The first group visited the construction laboratories while the other saw the hydraulics laboratories. The master of ceremonies at this first stop was our colleague at EPSO, José Joaquín García Díez, who explained to us the most important aspects of both stays. Next, we entered with Luis Noguera Artiaga, researcher at CIAGRO, to see the tasting area and kitchens installed in one of the leading institutes on campus.
Next, the visit went to the experimental plot with the greenhouses, the collection of pomegranate trees, the ecological plot, the vineyards, the critics, the collection of quince trees, as well as various crops existing in the area. In this section it was the technician Adrián Grau Sánchez who guided us and helped us understand the details of each of the terrains we passed through. And as things moved into the countryside, both groups ended up at the composting plant where our friend Enrique Agulló Ruiz showed us the uses and resources to which the different waste they work with is allocated, in addition to showing us the machinery with which they treat the composts. Finally, and before stopping along the way for lunch, the group visited the farms and saw first-hand how our friends Amparo Roca Gumbau, Elena Pérez SánchezandAlfonso Navarro Sánchez milked and fed all the goats. At this point, the Orihuela section of the SATDI prepared a small lunch in collaboration with the staff of the campus cafeteria, which helped to regain strength and continue with the visit. Fortunately, the temperatures were favorable throughout the entire excursion, which also contributed to its smooth running.
The second part of the coexistence began with two food workshops that were organized by local technicians Javier Vives Solbes and Raquel Muelas Domingo, supported in turn by more EPSO technical staff. Here again both groups were divided to simultaneously carry out a spherification workshop and a butter workshop. Javier delighted us with a brief explanation about spherifications, telling us their origin and the different types that exist, in addition to giving us a practical class on how to make them. On the other hand, we also learned with Raquel to make butter in a simple way with a jar of cream, some containers and water at low temperature; and a lot of strength/patience to shake.
Finally, the two SATDI groups rejoined into one and finished the route in an interesting wine tasting in the Tudemir building, which was led by teachers and researchers David B. López Lluch and Luis Noguera Artiaga. In it, the SATDI technicians were able to taste four different wines from the Alicante area that delighted all attendees. Although not everything ended there, since after an excellent meal in the campus cafeteria to share experiences, a large group of service survivors stayed to enjoy a historical-cultural tour of the beautiful city of Orihuela. Without a doubt, the best finishing touch to a day of coexistence, learning and very “good rolling” that intends to stay with us for a long time.
