Multiwell plate readers coupled with high-resolution visible and fluorescence microscopy (high content imaging) allow not only image acquisition but also the quantification of numerous cellular and image-related parameters. The system features temperature and CO₂ control to enable long cell kinetics.

Each unit includes two interchangeable lenses for image capture. In total, we have 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x lenses, which can be changed according to the needs of the experiment upon request to the responsible personnel.
The fluorescence filters for image capture include:

  • Cytation 1: DAPI, GFP, Texas Red and RFP.

  • Cytation 3: DAPI, Texas Red and Cy5.

Both allow for brightfield and fluorescence image capture, well-level absorbance and fluorescence quantification, and time-lapse studies enabling dynamic monitoring of experiments.

  • Cytation 1 includes fluorescence detection in GFP using a filter.

  • Cytation 3 offers fluorescence detection via a monochromator for greater flexibility. It also incorporates temperature control up to 45°C and CO₂/O₂ regulation , ideal for in vivo experiments.

Observations

The Cytation 1 equipment has been acquired thanks to an Action co-financed by the Generalitat Valenciana through the PROMETEO Excellence Program with the Project “New therapeutic approaches in metabolic diseases: modulation of food intake and energy balance through nutraceuticals and neurotechnology” (PROMETEO/2021/059) and the International Centre for Aging Research (ICAR) with the Project “Regulation of metabolic stress associated with aging through plant polyphenols” (PLANTAGING).
