Image of a particle analyzer and zeta potential (Zetasizer, Malvern)

Dynamic light scattering (DLS) particle analyzer with non-invasive backscattering optics (NIBS) and a flow cell for coupling to chromatography systems. This instrument allows for the measurement of the size of nanoparticles, colloids, and macromolecules in solution, from below the nanometer scale down to a few microns. Thanks to the NIBS optics, the laser does not have to pass through the entire sample, avoiding multiple scattering effects and enabling highly sensitive measurements in both concentrated and very dilute samples. The system includes a molecular weight analyzer with static light scattering and a zeta potential analyzer, which is crucial in the design and preparation of formulations and uses electrophoretic light scattering for particles, molecules, and surfaces. The instrument is also capable of measuring translational diffusion, electrophoretic mobility, viscosity, and viscoelasticity of protein and polymer solutions. The flow cell allows the instrument to be connected to the outlet tube of a size exclusion chromatography (SEC) or HPLC column, making it possible to measure size or molecular weights under chromatographic conditions.
